There are no signs leading to it. [This brief history was submitted August 12, 2011 by Kenneth McGilbery ] A Brief History of the Speir Cemetery JOHN HENRY ISOM CHARLES PICKNEY POPNEY SPEIR purchased this section of land in 1861 for a total price of $125.00. The section consisted of 640 Acres which was later divided into seven parcels and given to seven of his children. HENRY THOMAS ALEXANDER STEINNER “Doc” SPEIR Received the parcel that the SPEIR Cemetery is located on, and his airs still own the property today. He made a statement to Family members once THAT NO PERSON WOULD BE DENIED BURIAL IN THIS CEMETERY. The cemetery was started with the Death and Burial of Inf. Child of Charles A and Martha Deliah Speir Dudley, Grandchild of Henry P. Speir, Followed by Children of Rev. Rodulphus L and Margaret Ann Abrigale Speir Mott –Sally Ann Mott 3 months old in 1874—Theadocia Mott 8 years old in 1877—Rebecca Jane Mott 6 years in 1884—Henry Thomas Mott 6 years old in 1886. John Henry P Speir himself was buried here in 1875 his wife Jane Handley Speir in 1887. The first NON-FAMILY Person to be buried in this Cemetery was a Neighbor child by the name of Letney. Down through the years descendents, neighbors and friends have come to rest here. It is hoped by the Descendents that the Cemetery will be preserved as it has for the past 140 yrs.
