Cochran Cemetery

by
Debra Coursey Pitts and son D. J.

Location: About 11 miles southeast of Huntington; go Hwy.69 south to Huntington
turning onto FM.RD.2109 for about 11 miles then left onto 2801 (Hanks Creek area)
then right on Co.RD.363 at the Cochran Cemetery sign, cemetery will be on right side
of road.
Cochran Cemetery is known for the story that surrounds the small gravestone that is
located towards the front & center of the cemetery. It is that of an unknown baby
that was left on the doorstep of the Lovelady Family who lived down the road.
The old original marker has long since deteriorated and lays in a pile behind
a new one that has replaced it. *It reads as follows :"Unknown infant boy found at
the home of J. K. LOVELADY on 4-1 and died on 4-3-1899 - MAN WHO ARE YOU"
